Minority institutions
After 1920, the Danish minority organised itself through its own institutions. Dansk Skoleforening for Sydslesvig now runs more than 40 schools and nearly as many kindergartens, where children grow up with Danish language and culture. Sydslesvigsk Forening (SSF) oversees cultural life, while Sydslesvigs danske Ungdomsforeninger (SdU) brings children and young people together through sports, scouting, and leisure activities. The Dansk Centralbibliotek, Flensborg Avis, and the Dansk Sundhedstjeneste provide access to literature, media, and healthcare in Danish. The minority even has its own political party, the Sydslesvigsk Vælgerforening (SSW), represented in municipalities, the state parliament, and the German Bundestag. Together, these institutions make it possible to live an entire life in Danish in South Schleswig.
