The Borderland Ambassadors.

The Borderland Ambassadors

There are countless fascinating stories about life in the Danish-German border region—both the grand historical narratives and the smaller, more personal ones. The Borderland Ambassadors project highlights these personal experiences, shared by people who have grown up in the border region, both north and south of the border. The Borderland Ambassadors form a close-knit community of individuals who have lived the realities of the borderland and are eager to share their stories. You can arrange a meeting with 3–5 Borderland Ambassadors and visit them in the region, but they are also happy to travel to your association or organization to share their experiences.

A glimpse into two personal stories from Borderland Ambassadors:

"I grew up in Gråsten, where we had daily fights with boys from the German minority. Later, we became great friends." - Claus Jørn Jensen

"The famous Danish election posters in Flensburg ahead of the referendum in Zone 2 on March 14, 1920, were largely put up by my grandmother." - Kjeld Christiansen

The project is a collaboration between Sydslesvigsk Forening (SSF) and Grænseforeningen Aabenraa. You can book a visit with the Borderland Ambassadors by contacting Jens Overgaard from Grænseforeningen Aabenraa.
